Ann Cinque is Controller at Health LifeBrands, Philadelphia.
What is a typical day like for you?
Hit snooze 3-4 times, repeatedly tell nine-year old daughter to get dressed / brush teeth / “going to be late for school“, wrangle three dogs, in office by 8:30 a.m., work, work, work, homework, dinner, binge watch, read, bed.
How did you begin in the field of finance?
I have degrees in Film and Elementary Education. It is a winding road. After years of working with arts nonprofits, I took a job as a project manager at DH, took over as financial lead on a brand, working closely with Finance partners. When a position in Finance department opened up, I took it. I look at most things like a puzzle – you can figure almost anything out that way.
What are some of your hobbies?
Reading and pinning things I’d like to do if I wasn’t too busy pinning.
What’s your best piece of financial advice?
Contribute to your retirement fund from the day you start working. Oh, and don’t go to DiBruno’s (Philadelphia) when you are hungry.
Biggest influence in your life?
By far, my family. They have taught me everything from the importance of hard work (dad), how to clean / iron just about anything (mom), how to make gravy, meatballs and roll gnocchi (Italian nan), how to garden (Italian grandpop), how to play Pinochle (Irish grandpop), a love of reading and the arts (Aunt Fran), and the importance of a good laugh (Irish nan). I played with my (many) cousins every Sunday, which taught me to get up after you are knocked down and the importance of keeping a good secret.
What would you be doing if you weren’t in the finance field?
I’d be back working with nonprofits. I love a good cause. If I had lottery money, I would be running an animal sanctuary.
