Stengel joined on stage by PHCG’s Alexandra von Plato and Nick Colucci
NEW YORK, June 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The inaugural Cannes Lions Health Festival program is off to a healthy start with the opening seminar presented by Publicis Healthcare Communications Group. The presentation, “Build an Inspired Organization Now,” featured keynote speaker Jim Stengel, Founder and CEO of The Jim Stengel Company and former Chief Marketing Officer of Procter & Gamble, and launched a series of presentations spanning the two-day festival.
The presentation talked about how companies having a higher purpose can have a growth rate triple that of competitors and outperform market expectations. Stengel highlighted successful strategies from brands including Dove, Tide and Old Spice to Discovery Channel, Pampers and Tesla. Stengel also pointed to Sanofi’s initiative to unite nurses around the world as an example of a “higher purpose” brand in the health and wellness space driving results.
Stengel, credited with being the first marketer to come to the main Cannes Festival of Creativity more than a decade ago, challenged first-time health attendees to use the learnings gleaned at Lions Health to inspire that the culture and operations in their workplace align to deliver improved business results. Stengel said, “Health companies face greater challenges than most consumer products companies because of the regulatory environment, but that stimulates an environment that needs to be even more creative. There is no more important industry than healthcare to embrace the need for greater creativity.”
Stengel was introduced to the stage by Alexandra von Plato, President and Global Chief Creative Officer of Digitas Health Life Brands and Publicis Healthcare Communications Group, who reinforced how important the patients’ needs are to motivate marketers and inspire us to help care for ourselves and our families, saying, “This is why we all get up in the morning.” von Plato also called on Lions Health attendees to make changes in their own organizations and prove that organizations with a higher purpose at their center have the biggest return on investment.
Stengel then shared the stage with Nick Colucci, Chief Executive Officer of Publicis Healthcare Communications Group. Colucci and Stengel engaged in a lively discussion about how the health and wellness industries can make the changes needed in their cultures to inspire creativity and bring about real change in the patient and doctor dialogue. They discussed how a value-driven organization must equip employees with the skills, tools, and processes, clarify roles and responsibilities, and tear down silos. They shared how the successful implementation of these efforts would not only drive business results, but most importantly will improve health outcomes for everyone.
